Watchdog says opens administrative case against Facebook, Twitter
MOSCOW, Jan 21 (PRIME) -- The communications service has opened an administrative procedure against Facebook and Twitter because the U.S. companies had failed to give an unambiguous answer about the obligatory localization of Russians’ personal data, the watchdog’s press secretary Vadim Ampelonsky told PRIME on Monday.
“The companies managing social networks Facebook and Twitter provided formal responses to our requests to confirm localization of personal data of Russian users in Russia. They contain no clear information either on the fulfilment of the law at the moment or on the timeframes to respect the rules in the future,” Ampelonsky said.
“This is why the communications service has started today an administrative procedure against these two companies.”
The watchdog sent inquires to Facebook and Twitter regarding their respect of the law on December 17, 2018 and received responses on January 18.
